This project combines two great challenges The Netherlands face today, namely the energy transition and the rising temperatures caused by climate change. In order to meet the sustainability goals, energy transition goals, and the climate targets of Paris, it is necessary to make the transition from fossil energy to renewable energy sources. One important element of the energy transition is implementing new innovations to save energy. This is complicated by the rising temperatures caused by climate change. With temperature records breaking almost every summer, The Netherlands are no exeption to the worldwide trend. Dutch cities and buildings are not designed for hot and long summers, so energy usage is rising to keep people, animals, and goods cool. Thus, innovation is needed to adapt to these new circumstances.
To help solve these problems we partnered with NCK Europe, official distributor of Adgreencoat: an eco-friendly coating system developed to protect against problems caused by the sun’s heat. It does so by reflecting 87% of the sunlight directly off the surface, keeping the surface cooler up to 25°C. This reduces the usage of cooling energy significantly and helps prevent heat islands in cities, business parks, and ports. This coating system is a perfect example of a sustainable innovation that is able to tackle multiple problems, while adding value in the process.
