Sustainability Table Westpoort

As a member of the Business Association of Westpoort, the largest business park of the Netherlands, Social Innovations takes part in the Sustainability Table Westpoort. We help build ideas, set up partnerships, and implement solutions to accelerate the energy transition and achieve the sustainability goals.

Westpoort is the largest contiguous business park in the Netherlands, with an area of almost 40 square kilometers. It contains both the port of Amsterdam as well as the surrounding areas. In 2019, Westpoort had 1553 business establishments, 24751 employed persons and 177 inhabitants (source: Municipality of Amsterdam, 2019). As much as 15% of the regional product is produced in Westpoort.

Westpoort is facing a major transformation. The Westpoort Business Association wants to start the transformation with a high level of ambition. In ten years’ time, Westpoort must be a thriving working landscape, with iconic architecture that rivals Hamburg’s Hafencity and with good accommodation facilities for residents, employees and visitors.

It must also be an area that offers excellent conditions for the establishment of companies in terms of security, digital environment, hospitality, cohesion and accessibility. A site that is suitable for international acquisition, especially in the emerging economies of Asia. And a site that meets all the Paris climate targets and permanently generates energy for the rest of the city.

The transition in terms of composition, energy supply and sustainability that the Westpoort area will face in the coming years requires ambassadors. Ambassadors who contribute to the DNA of Westpoort and understand the area, but at the same time are not afraid to bring about the necessary changes. As ambassadors for sustainability within Westpoort we give shape to ideas and actions that should lead to a cleaner, more efficient and future-proof Westpoort.
